LeBron James and the Lakers were stifled last night by a stellar Memphis Grizzlies team led by rookie sensation Ja Morant. The former No. 2 overall pick had a game-leading 27 points and 14 assists in a 105-88 win over the Lakers. After the game, LeBron had high praise for the Rookie of the Year candidate.
Speaking to the media after the game, LeBron referred to Morant as “super special.” He recalled saying that the Grizzlies “got a great one” back when their two teams played in Los Angeles, declared that “the sky’s the limit for Morant.”
“The kid is super special,” James said. “Like I said when we just played him in L.A., Memphis got a great one. They got a great one. So, the sky’s the limit for the kid.”
After winning just 33 games all season last year, Morant has lifted the Grizzlies to a 29-31 record so far. They currently sit at 8th in the Western Conference with a three-win lead over Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Morant was a standout performer at the 2019 NCAA Tournament. He put up incredible numbers for Murray State and leading them to an upset win over Marquette in the First Round.
His strong showing in the NCAA Tournament along with the numbers he put up for the Racers made him the clear No. 2 choice in the 2019 NBA Draft. So when the Grizzlies found out they won the pick in the Draft Lottery, there was much rejoicing.
Now Morant is considered one of the fastest rising stars in the NBA, garnering the respect of its biggest star.
The future looks very bright for Ja Morant.
