LeBron James has been considered the best player in the NBA for the past decade, but 'The King' suddenly has competition for the top spot. It can be argued that Kawhi Leonard is now the most dominant player in the league.

The Toronto Raptors acquired Leonard a year ago in an effort to win an NBA title. He delivered by bringing the franchise their first championship.

Leonard then took his talents to Los Angeles to form a championship team with Paul George. Although he didn't have his co-star on the floor with him for the season opener, the reigning Finals MVP found a way to start the campaign with a win.

In a battle between the Clippers and the Lakers, Leonard managed to edge out LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Following the game, all the talk around the NBA was how he's established himself as the best player in basketball.

Hall of Famer Charles Barkley didn't hesitate when asked who's better: LeBron or Kawhi?

"I don’t hesitate. At this stage, Kawhi’s a better player than LeBron. He does everything better. He's a better defender and a better scorer. You just saw him will a good Toronto team to a championship."

It's hard to argue against Leonard, who is clearly in the prime of his career.

While the league has been run by James for multiple years, it finally seems like his firm grip as the best player in the NBA has opened up. Fortunately for basketball fans, we'll see more battles between the two stars this season.
