Late Tuesday night, Los Angeles Lakers fans received some troubling news about one of the team's best young players.

According to a police report, police arrested Lakers guard Alex Caruso for marijuana possession. NBA reporter Ben Rohrback tweeted a photo of Caruso's mugshot along with details of the arrest.

According to the police report, Texas A&M University police booked Caruso on two charges. Police charged the Lakers guard with marijuana possession of less than two ounces and possession of drug paraphernalia.

It's obviously not a great moment for the Lakers following their early exit from the playoffs.

Caruso was a solid role player for the Lakers during the 2020-21 season. He set a career high in rebounds per game, while posting his second-best marks in both points and assists per game.

It's unfortunate timing for Caruso, who is entering the offseason as a free agent. It's unclear if the Lakers plan to bring him back for another season.

We'll have the latest on this developing situation as it becomes available.
