Here’s Why The Lakers Are Making The Trade With The Nets

The Lakers and Nets finalized a blockbuster trade this afternoon, and this is why.

With the NBA Draft looming, teams are scrambling to make trades.

With Paul George's recent declaration that he plans on playing for the Lakers next year, things have heated up even further.

Today, news broke that the Lakers and Nets completed a blockbuster trade that sends Timothy Mozgov and D'Angelo Russell to the Nets, with the Lakers receiving Brook Lopez and the No. 27 overall pick in this year's draft.

Check it out:

According to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, by trading away Russell and Mozgov, the Lakers are making cap room to not only sign Paul George next season (or sooner if they trade for him)...but also LeBron James.

James will be a free agent next summer, and rumors suggest he might want to take his talents out west to the Clippers or the Lakers if the proper circumstances present themselves. Could the Lakers be his destination of choice? They're certainly making the case for it. If the Cavaliers can't build up a competitive roster this season, it seems almost like a guarantee.
