The Los Angeles Lakers accomplished the biggest part of building an instant contender: signing the best player in basketball. They still wants to acquire another superstar, and new Lakers trade rumors go way beyond the common Kawhi Leonard talks.

NBA insider Chris Sheridan wrote a pretty lengthy column on Monday in the wake of the LeBron James decision.

According to Sheridan, the Lakers are exploring a number of huge names, at a variety of positions. From Sheridan:

A number of trade options are being considered by Lakers executives Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka, and names that are being bandied about include Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, DeMar DeRozan, Bradley Beal, and John Wall … among others.

Obviously these are all very much Lakers trade rumors at this point. We haven't seen anything more about most of these names.

There is at least a shred of logic behind these names though, and it would make sense that the Lakers are leaving no rock unturned.

There has been plenty written about John Wall and Bradley Beal's contentious relationship. It seems like Beal would be the more likely player to be moved, but perhaps the right combination could land either.

DeMar DeRozan is a Los Angeles native, and while he seems happy with the Toronto Raptors, if the team decides to scrap things and move forward given the team's inability to break though, he could be a possible trade piece. With LeBron out West, the Raptors will probably give it another go with the current team though.

The Portland Trail Blazers are in a similar position, and things just got harder with the bolstered West. His running mate C.J. McCollum is the more commonly floated trade chip, but Lillard could fetch a lot.

Kevin Love has won a title alongside LeBron and is very likely to be on the trade block. However, it seems unlikely that, given the Lakers' current assemblage of talent, Love would be the best fit.

It doesn't sound like any of these are imminent, or even really being negotiated. Based on Sherdian's report though, the Lakers are exploring all options to build around James.
