Heading into the NBA’s bubble, the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers were the heavy favorites to fight for the Western Conference crown.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis vs. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George was supposed to be the matchup that decides the eventual champion. Unfortunately, the Clippers failed to make that a reality.
Leonard, George and the Clippers fell to the Denver Nuggets after leading the series 3-1. The Lakers dispatched the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals before winning the NBA title over the Miami Heat.
After winning the title, Lakers forward Jared Dudley opened up on not facing the Clippers. He said the Lakers were “laughing” when they watched the Nuggets take down Kawhi Leonard and company.
Here’s what he had to say, via The Big Lead:
“We were laughing. We were laughing, since, like, I can’t believe it. I thought they were gonna win Game 7. I didn’t think they were going to lose. Our whole mind was, we gotta beat the Clippers. We want the Clippers. They wanted us…But you know what? It was just crazy. You see George hit the side of the backboard, Kawhi not having that. But those boys, they didn’t want to be in the bubble. They didn’t want to be there. I don’t blame them for certain times, but the world needed to see the Lakers and Clippers, and it’s unfortunate we didn’t get to see that.”
It’s a brutally honest assessment from Dudley, but this isn’t the first time he’s made a bold comment.
He was honest, though. Basketball fans wanted to see the Lakers and Clippers face off in the Western Conference Finals.
Perhaps next year.
