It’s increasingly looking like Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton is on his way out. But should the Lakers cut ties with him, Walton probably won’t have to wait long (or go far) to find another job.
According to Seth Davis of CBS Sports, Walton might have his choice of two top college coaching jobs.
Walton’s alma mater, Arizona, could have a head coaching vacancy, as there are major questions about Sean Miller’s future. UCLA, meanwhile, is also looking for a new head coach.
Davis also noted that Walton is so high in demand that the entire college coaching cycle could become virtually frozen until the Lakers make a decision on Walton. The Lakers’ final game of the season will be against Portland on April 9.
If Luke Walton does not survive as the Lakers coach it is quite possible he will have his pick of two very good jobs—Arizona and UCLA. The coaching carousel could be frozen for a while until his situation plays out. Lakers’ final game is March 31.

In his first two seasons at the helm of Los Angeles, Walton’s Lakers went just 61-103, missing the playoffs in both years.
As of writing, the Lakers are 30-36 on the season, and a full seven games out of the playoff race with only 16 games left to play.
As for Walton’s options, both teams have their appeals.
Arizona, Walton’s alma mater, finished the season with a 17-14 regular season record and could be moving on from Miller.
UCLA fired head coach Steve Alford earlier this season. Luke’s father, Bill Walton, was a legend for the Bruins.
