The Los Angeles Lakers are 28-29 at the NBA All-Star Break, three games out of a playoff spot with 25 games remaining. This season hasn’t gone according to plan.
In a recent appearance on the Brian Windhorst & the Hoop Collective Podcast, ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan suggested that LeBron James’ camp would prefer a coaching change. Given LeBron’s past history with coaches, that could spell bad news for Luke Walton.
However, a recent report from the Los Angeles Times‘ Brad Turner says Walton’s job is safe, for now. For what it’s worth, Walton is putting on a relaxed public face about the matter.
TMZ approached Walton out in LA and asked him about reports that LeBron wants him out. He didn’t have much to say.
“LeBron and I get along just fine,” Walton told TMZ Sports.

Whether or not you believe Walton is actually safe, there is no question that the pressure is on the Lakers right now. The team is also dealing with the fallout of constant trade rumors before the deadline, which mentioned basically all of the team’s young players as potential trade chips.
The deadline passed without a major move, leaving those young guns stuck on a team that was reportedly shopping them.
