In just two seasons, Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball has established himself as one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.
Long-suffering Hornets fans are clinging to Ball as the hope for their team to build around, but others see the 6-foot-7 point guard taking his talents to somewhere the lights shine brighter.
In an interview with Shannon Sharpe, former NBA star Tracy McGrady was asked who he would choose as the future face of the league out of Ball, Luka Doncic, Trae Young and Ja Morant. McGrady picked Ball and Morant, before saying that LaMelo would have the nod if he can become a Los Angeles Laker.
"If LaMelo Ball can get to La-La Land, because I think he's built for that, I think he can be that face," McGrady said.
McGrady is not the first ex-NBAer to suggest LaMelo should head to LA. ESPN's Jay Williams did the same last week.
“When I look at LaMelo Ball, I see nothing but purple and gold,” Williams said. “It’s written over the way he dresses, the style in which he pulls up to games. It relates to his whole social media image, where he’s from, and his dad had so much to do with how things are orchestrated, even with Lonzo getting there the first time.”
Charlotte fans have to hope that their young playmaker ignores all this outside noise.
