After a mid-season trade sent him from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Toronto Raptors, Marc Gasol finished the season strong and earned an NBA championship ring. With free agency looming and a player option available on his contract, Gasol has made a decision on his future.

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Gasol is choosing to exercise his $25.6 million player option for the 2019-20 season. Toronto acquired Gasol from the Grizzlies in exchange for C. J. Miles, Jonas Valančiūnas, Delon Wright and a 2024 second-round draft pick.

Initially, the trade didn't seem like a home run for Toronto.

In 26 regular season games for the Raptors, Gasol averaged 9.1 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, and 3.9 assists per game.

But he saw a resurgence in his play during the NBA playoffs. He started all 24 of Toronto's playoff games, averaging 9.4 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game.

He might not have many years left, though. Gasol will be turning 35 next season.

Now all the Raptors can do is wait and see if NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard will return to them along with Gasol.

NBA free agency is slated to start this Sunday afternoon at 6:00 p.m. EST.
