Following an impressive win on the road against the Phoenix Suns, the Miami Heat quickly found themselves in a scary situation on their flight to Los Angeles. During their flight, Dion Waiters reportedly had a medical emergency.
Andy Slater was the first one to report the news that Miami was dealing with an emergency of some sort. Shortly after he broke the story, he provided a few details about what took place.
According to Slater, the Heat had to list Waiters as out for Friday’s game against the Lakers because he overdosed on “gummies.”
Waiters apparently passed out on the plane and then had a seizure when he was woken up by teammates.
The team hasn’t confirmed these details at the moment, but the Heat did list Waiters as out this weekend because of an illness.
If these details about Waiters are true, it’s just good to know that he’s doing well after what must have been a frightening situation for everyone involved.
UPDATE: Dion Waiters is the Heat player who had medical emergency on team plane, I’ve confirmed.
Waiters overdosed on “gummies,” sources say, and was passed out when plane landed.
He had a seizure when he was finally woken up, I’m told.
Waiters was listed out tonight (illness)

This season hasn’t gone as planned for Waiters. A few weeks ago he was suspended from Miami’s season opener for “conduct detrimental to the team.
Waiters hasn’t appeared in a game yet this season for the Heat.
Additional details should emerge in the near future as the basketball world waits for the Heat or Waiters to publicly comment on this story.
