Today’s USA-Greece FIBA World Cup game was relatively uneventful until the final minutes, when a hard foul by Greece’s Thanasis Antetokounmpo drew the ire of the American squad.
Thanasis, the brother of Milwaukee Bucks star and Greece’s top player Giannis Antetokounmpo, fouled USA forward Harrison Barnes on a fast break dunk. Barnes converted the dunk but took a tumble afterwards.

After the game ended, USA guard Marcus Smart reportedly had words for Thanasis, whose brother came to his aid. Jaylen Brown and Giannis got into it before Giannis’ Milwaukee teammate and USA guard Khris Middleton removed him from the situation.
The two teams apparently did not shake hands after the game.
Marcus Smart appeared to have words with Thanasis Antetokounmpo after the buzzer, after Thanasis fouled Harrison Barnes on a dunk attempt late in the game. Giannis got in the middle. Jaylen Brown had words with Giannis. Khris Middleton moved Giannis out of it.

The USA won today’s contest 69-53 to move to 4-0 in World Cup play.
As for the extracurricular activity that went on, it will be interesting to see if any of this spills over into the season. Both Antetokounmpo brothers are on the Bucks, who will be battling with the Brown and Smart’s Celtics in the East.
