Karl-Anthony Towns had one of his worst performances in recent memory against the Memphis Grizzlies in yesterday's stunning loss after a blown 26-point lead. It was only a matter of time before the Minnesota Timberwolves star got into Charles Barkley's crosshairs.
During TNT's postgame coverage of the game, Barkley "couldn't believe" some of the answers KAT gave at his press conference. He admonished KAT for skipping questions after multiple games where he had a lot of fouls but not many points.
"You've gotta play better, man. There's never an excuse for a guy who's an All-Star to get six fouls then five fouls - in a two-weeks period in must-win situations. I picked Minnesota to win this series because they've got talent. But they've got no brains whatsoever," Barkley said.
Barkley went on to criticize Minnesota head coach Chris Finch for how he handled the team's meltdown. Ultimately, he thought that the Timberwolves' performance on Thursday was "ridiculous."
"KAT is that guy that is KG all season then turns into Kristaps Porzingis come playoff time," one fan replied.
"There's a certain self awareness that comes with being a superstar player. It's not mental toughness or confidence that is needed, but humility in recognizing how you have to be better. His answers were wrapped in arrogance and somebody should check him," wrote another.
"Didn't sound like they asked him anything unreasonable. No excuse for the attitude," a third wrote.
Minnesota now trail Memphis 2-1 in the series. They have not won a playoff series in 18 years.
It will take some big improvements from Karl-Anthony Towns to end that streak.
