When word broke earlier today that Carmelo Anthony was working out with members of the Brooklyn Nets, it was natural to believe that might be as a tryout for the team. But the latest reports indicate that it was a little less complicated than that.
According to NetsDaily, a league source stated that Melo’s workout with the Nets was merely a case of “friends working out with friends.”
It is therefore not a sign that Melo is close to signing with a team.
Anthony had been spotted working out with Nets players in Los Angeles.
One league source aware of Melo workouts with Nets players suggested this was merely “friends working out with friends.”

Earlier today, SNY reported that Melo was participating in “informal” team workouts with some Nets players in Los Angeles. He has been out of work since being waived by the Bulls upon being traded from the Houston Rockets.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to deny that Brooklyn would be a good fit for Melo.
The Nets are coming off a playoff appearance and recently added All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
With Durant slated to miss most or all of the 2019-20 season with an injury, there’s room on the team for a scoring forward like Melo.
The 10-time NBA All-Star also happens to be a Brooklyn-native with strong ties to New York City.
