On Thursday afternoon, the NBA continued its domination of the sporting headlines despite the Super Bowl being just three days away. The New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks agreed on a deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavericks, who took on lucrative contracts of guards Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee.

The Knicks also landed former top pick Dennis Smith Jr., who announced his displeasure with the franchise and his impact on the team. While the Knicks were crushed for the trade details that were released in the immediate aftermath of the trade, new information should please Knicks fans - albeit only slightly.

According to Shams Charania, the Knicks also received two future first-round picks from the Mavericks.

Two future first-round picks should soften the blow for Knicks fans who wanted to see Prozingis get back to form during the 2019-20 season. After suffering a torn ACL, Porzingis wasn't likely to suit up for the Knicks this season anyway, but the trade makes it official.

Now, Knicks fans will turn their attention to landing top free agents. The team will likely have room for two max contracts so fans can start dreaming of landing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving - or other top free agents.
