The New Orleans Pelicans have made a decision on the playing future of NBA star Anthony Davis.
After being the subject of trade rumors over the past few weeks, the trade deadline came and went with Davis still on the Pelicans’ roster.
The Los Angeles Lakers made several attempts to trade for the six-time All-Star, but were rebuffed by the Pelicans brass.
With Davis still on the roster after the trade deadline, the Pelicans were faced with a major question.
Will they allow Davis to play out the rest of the season, or keep him on the bench to ensure he’s healthy when trade talks resume this summer?
It didn’t take long for the Pelicans to release a statement clarifying their intentions moving forward.
“Anthony Davis will play the remainder of the 2018-19 season for the New Orleans Pelicans. A number of factors contributed to this decision. Ultimately Anthony made it clear to us that he wants to play and he gives out team the best opportunity to win games,” the Pelicans said in the statement.

It’s a risky move for New Orleans to allow Davis to see the floor for the rest of the season given his injury history.
If he suffers an injury before the end of the season, the trade market would shift significantly.
Next up for the Pelicans is a contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.
