Al Horford wasn't originally set to hit the open market this offseason. However, the All-Star center ultimately decided that he'd decline his player option from Boston for the 2019-20 season.
Despite being out of his prime, Horford is a savvy veteran that should provide an immediate impact for any team.
While there have been reports about the Clippers having interest in Horford, it appears another team in the Western Conference will be in the market for him. It might seem like a surprise, but the New Orleans Pelicans will be in the sweepstakes for the 34-year-old star.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Pelicans have interest in Horford but fear that they'll be outbid.
On Saturday, basketball fans were buzzing over Horford's recent activity on social media. Apparently he followed Jrue Holiday and Zion Williamson - both members of the Pelicans.
Perhaps an interesting trio could be forming down in New Orleans.
Horford averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this past season. His ability to stretch the floor would be a tremendous asset for the Pelicans.
Landing Horford in free agency would give the Pelicans another leader in the locker room to help develop their young core.
We'll continue to provide updates here at The Spun throughout free agency.
