Lonzo Ball has struggled shooting the ball in his first two seasons in the NBA. Ball’s percentages from three-point range and especially the free-throw line have been poor.
Heading into this season, the former No. 2 overall pick appears to have significantly altered his shooting motion. No longer is he hoisting the ball from completely across his body.
In the video the New Orleans Pelicans released yesterday, Ball’s stroke seems much smoother. His release point is just off the right side of his head.

Compare that clip to some of the ones from this time last year. Even Ball’s “new” jump shot in 2018 was more reminiscent of the cross-body form that was his trademark.

Time will tell if the improved mechanics result in improved results. Ball doesn’t really have anywhere to go but up at this point.
He’s a career 38% shooter in 99 NBA games, making just 31.5% of his three-point attempts and 43.7% of his free throws. Those percentages have to get better if Ball is going to develop as an NBA player.
Hopefully for him this fresh start in New Orleans does wonders.
