The New York Knicks have stunned the NBA today by trading star Kristaps Porzingis seemingly out of nowhere. Earlier, a report from ESPN indicated Porzingis informed the Knicks that he wanted to be dealt, but everything came together rather quickly.

Porzingis is headed to Dallas, along with Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr., Wes Matthews, DeAndre Jordan and a pick. This frees up a ton of cap space for the Knicks this summer, when they are expected to be active in free agency.

They'd better hope they can be, because signing a couple of stars might be the only way to salvage this deal in the long run. The Knicks are getting trashed for this trade, and rightfully so.

Here are just a few of the responses.

There are plenty more where that came from.

Porzingis was the Knicks' first-round pick in 2015, the "unicorn" who was supposed to be the face of the franchise for a decade-plus. Sure, he is coming off an ACL injury that cut short an All-Star 2017-18 season, but this is a terrible deal for the Knicks on paper.

On the bright side, Luka Doncic and Porzingis in Dallas is going to be fun.
