Joel Embiid To Undergo Surgery For Orbital Fracture

Joel Embiid knocked out of game against Knicks with head injury.

On Wednesday night, Philadelphia 76ers star big man Joel Embiid was taken to the hospital after a nasty collision with Markelle Fultz in the win over the New York Knicks.

Embiid went to the ground clutching his face on the way down.

The Sixers announced Embiid suffered a facial contusion on Wednesday night, but have since downgraded their superstar.

Philadelphia announced Embiid has been placed in the concussion protocol.

But that's just the tip of the bad news iceberg for 76ers fans. Embiid also suffered a fractured orbital bone in his face, which will require surgery.

The young big man shared an image of himself at the hospital on his Instagram story.

It's a tough break for the big man, who finally broke out after three tumultuous injury-plagued seasons with the team. Philadelphia currently owns the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race, and has already clinched a spot.

No timetable has been set for his return.
