Damian Lillard‘s future with the Portland Trail Blazers seems to be up in the air. Lillard has rejected the notion that he’s made an official trade request, or that he’s absolutely done with the team.
Early this month, Henry Abbott of TrueHoop reported that a source close to Lillard said that the point guard was days from announcing a public trade request. Reports to the contrary emerged that same day, and Lillard eventually addressed the situation himself.
“Right now I’m not sure what I’m going to do,” he said in a press conference, after a practice with Team USA ahead of the Olympics. “What I can say is my intentions and my heart has always been set on being in a Trail Blazers uniform for my entire career. But I think over time, you want to win it all. And I want to win it all in a Trail Blazers uniform. But we all have to be making strides toward that.”
It certainly wasn’t a declaration that he’ll never try and head elsewhere, but it was far from a trade request. That request, which Abbott said was days away, has not come at this point. Now, TrueHoop has a new paywalled Lillard report: he teased it by tweeting that Lillard is “willing to forgo paychecks to get to a title team.”
"Sources say Damian Lillard is willing to forgo paychecks to get to a title team, if it comes to that."

This time, Lillard didn’t wait around until a press conference to respond. He had a clear, single-emoji tweet for that.

His backcourt-mate CJ McCollum thought this report was pretty funny as well.

Per Spotrac, Lillard has made over $191 million on the court so far. The four remaining years of his current contract, in which he’ll make an average of over $44 million, he’ll be at $367.48 million for his career.
That’s plenty of money, obviously, and Lillard wouldn’t be the first to take a bit less to go to a contender, but it certainly doesn’t seem like he’s interested in that if he’s willing to go public in response like that.
Damian Lillard’s future may not be with the Blazers, but so far it doesn’t sound like a huge move is imminent.
