Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard suffered a groin injury last night. Fortunately, it looks like Lillard and his team dodged a bullet.
According to a new report from Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, an MRI confirmed Lillard strained his groin. His recovery timeline is 1-to-2 weeks. All in all, not too bad.
Lillard hurt himself driving to the basket during Wednesday’s 111-104 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He came up lame and immediately headed to the locker room. Lillard has already been declared out of Saturday’s three-point contest and Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game, with Phoenix’s Devin Booker taking his place.
Fortunately, the upcoming All-Star Break is good news for the Blazers, who don’t play again until next Friday. If Lillard isn’t back by then, he probably won’t be far from a return, based off the initial prognosis.

At 25-31, Portland finds itself four games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. In order to catch Memphis, who is currently in eighth, the Blazers will need a healthy Lillard over the next two months.
Now in his eighth season, Lillard is averaging career highs in points (29.5) and assists (7.9) per game. He earned his also fifth all-time selection to the All-Star Game.
While Lillard won’t play in Chicago this weekend, he will still be part of the All-Star festivities. Lillard is scheduled to perform as a rapper under his stage name Dame D.O.L.L.A at the United Center on Saturday night.
