The San Antonio Spurs are playing tonight's playoff game against the Golden State Warriors with heavy hearts and without head coach Gregg Popovich. Popovich is not coaching due to the loss of his wife, Erin, to illness.
Erin Popovich passed away on Wednesday. However, the team did not honor her with a moment of silence or tribute before tonight's game.
This was by design. According to reporters, Popovich requested business as usual for his team. He wants them to focus on the task at hand.
This isn't really that surprising from Pop. He's always been a private guy, and his wife was reportedly the same way.
Pop is also very attentive to detail, so you can understand why he wants his team totally focused on the game. It goes in line with what he preaches.
Ettore Messina is coaching the Spurs tonight in San Antonio. The Warriors lead the series 2-0.
