When the San Antonio Spurs face the Charlotte Hornets tonight, Gregg Popovich will not be on the sidelines. Instead, the team will rely on one of its greatest players in franchise history to lead the way.
Popovich is out for tonight due to personal business. Taking his place will be former five-time NBA champion and future Hall of Famer, Tim Duncan. That’s right, the Spurs legend will be team’s head coach tonight.
Many people consider Duncan as the best player to ever suit up for San Antonio. His resume speaks for itself, as he’s a 15-time All-Star with plenty of championships and impressive statistics. It also helps that he was always a true professional off the court.
While there’s no debating that Duncan is one of the most dynamic players in NBA history, the jury is still out on him as it pertains to his coaching skills. However, we’ll get to see if he can be successful in that department tonight.
Per Spurs PR: “Gregg Popovich will miss tonight's Spurs-Hornets game due to personal business.
“Tim Duncan will serve as the Spurs head coach tonight in place of Pop.”

There are plenty of people wondering why San Antonio didn’t make Becky Hammon the interim coach for tonight’s game. Nonetheless, she remains one of the most popular coaching candidates for this offseason.
Tipoff for tonight’s matchup between the Hornets and Spurs is at 7 p.m. ET from the Spectrum Center.
Do you think Duncan will be victorious in his first appearance as San Antonio’s head coach?
