Stephen Jackson Reveals Gregg Popovich Told Him He Had To Stop Smoking Weed

The former NBA player was on ESPN Radio today.

Stephen Jackson had an entertaining appearance on The Ryen Russillo Show this afternoon.

The 39-year-old former NBA forward was discussing the summer league when he remembered his experience with the Spurs.

Jackson had a good summer league performance after his first season in the league, saying he was second that summer in scoring behind Dirk Nowitzki.

San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich was impressed with his performance, but had one request for Jackson before he made him a key member of the team that next season.

"There's only one way you're going to make my team," Jackson recalls Popovich saying. "During the season, you can't smoke weed. You just can't do it. I need you focused. I need you on your game. We have a chance to win the championship and I need you focused."

"Once he told me that, I shut it down," Jackson said.

He went on to play for San Antonio from 2001-03, winning the NBA Finals that last season.
