The big names (Durant, Kawhi, Kyrie, Kemba, Butler) are garnering most of the attention in NBA free agency, but there are other excellent players available, such as veteran big man Al Horford.

Earlier this month, it seemed like Horford would be re-signing in Boston long-term. However, after things broke down, he is expected to head elsewhere.

Several teams have been linked to Horford, including the New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers. Now, a new team is said to be readying a "massive" offer to the the 33-year-old center.

Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee reports that the Kings are that team and the interest between them and Horford is mutual.

Horford is likely on the back end of his career, but he is still quite effective in all phases. This past season, he averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 blocks per game.

The Kings finished 39-43 in 2018-19, which left them in ninth place in the Western Conference. They were nine games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the final playoff spot.

If Sacramento feels they are on the verge of turning the corner--contending in the West is too much to ask, but making the playoffs could be feasible--then making a run at Horford makes sense on paper.
