The Mavericks Are Declining Dirk's Option, Will Re-Sign Him

Dallas won't be opting into the $25 million option for next season.

The Mavericks are going to re-work Dirk Nowitzki's contract.

ESPN's Marc Stein is reporting today that Dallas has decided to not opt-in to the All-Star forward's $25 million option for the 2017-18 season.

The Mavs will instead re-work a deal that gives the team more flexibility moving forward.

How much of a discount Nowitzki will opt to take remains in question.

Nowitzki, 39, averaged 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds a game last year.

The Mavericks are coming off a 33-49 season.
