Earlier in the offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers expressed interest in signing Tyronn Lue as their head coach. Although he won’t be receiving a head coaching job right now, he is about to land a new gig in the NBA.
Lue is most known for leading the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2016. He developed a strong relationship with LeBron James, who reportedly wanted him as his coach in Los Angeles.
The Lakers went in a different direction at head coach, adding Frank Vogel and Jason Kidd to their staff. With Lue still on the market for other teams, the Clippers are preparing to sign him.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Clippers are closing in on hiring Lue as their top assistant coach.
Lue has experience under Doc Rivers from 2011-2013 with the Boston Celtics.
He’d be a tremendous addition to their coaching staff as they prepare for championship expectations next season.

Last season, Rivers led the Clippers to the playoffs despite having a roster that lacked a bonafide superstar. Los Angeles is expected to compete for a championship due to its new duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
While there is certainly star power on the court with Leonard and George, the Clippers may have just as much firepower on their coaching staff if they add Lue.
