It's not much of a stretch to say that R.J. Barrett is the most hyped Knicks draft pick since Patrick Ewing in 1985. He embraced New York City long before the team drafted him No. 3 overall, and the city embraced him back by cheering (for a change) his selection in Thursday's draft.
The team quickly brought Barrett to Madison Square Garden, where they surprised him with a chilling player introduction when he stepped onto the court. The video and his reaction to the incredible experience have quickly gone viral.
In less than half an hour after retweeting the Knicks' Twitter post, Bleacher Report got over 17,000 likes, 3,300 retweets, and over 180 comments.
You can see the video and Barrett's reaction here:
Knicks fans were undoubtedly disappointed that they weren't able to land the No. 1 or No. 2 pick to get either Zion Williamson or Ja Morant. But Barrett was no slouch, leading the ACC in scoring last year, and was still widely considered a top-three player in the draft.
Though the Knicks still have plenty of off-season building to do - a task that has only gotten harder between Kevin Durant's injury and Kyrie Irving's reported interest in Brooklyn - fans are still extremely excited to see what the Duke superstar can do.
And if Barrett can live up to his potential, he'll quickly become an icon at The World's Most Famous Arena.
