Ohio State heads into this Saturday's game against the UAB Blazers looking to finish strong against its non-conference opponents this season.

Many people aren't familiar with UAB, so here are 10 things you need to know about this week's opponent. Not only will you become smarter, but for the next three days you can impress your friends and family with your newly acquired knowledge.

1. This is the first ever meeting between UAB and Ohio State. In fact, this is only the 22nd season of UAB football. Ohio State is currently competing in its 123rd season, including 100 years in the Big Ten.

2. There are no UAB players on the roster that are from Ohio. There is a connection on the coaching staff. Offensive line coach John Peterson played for the Buckeyes from 1987-1990 and served as a graduate assistant, tight ends coach, and more recently as the recruiting coordinator. He held that position from 2004 until 2011.

3. Head Coach Garrick McGee is in first year coaching the Blazers. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Arkansas, where he was a finalist for the Broyles Award for the nation's top assistant coach.

4. On offense, a player to watch will be junior wide receiver Jackie Williams. He currently has 99 career catches and had a 157-yard performance against Troy in the season opener. Also, he has made a catch in all 25 games that he's played in his career, which is tied for 10th among active players in the FBS.

5. Another Jackie Williams fact. With his next catch, he would become the 5th UAB wide receiver with 100 career catches, joining a group that includes current Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White.

6. One of UAB's most experienced positions is at receiver, where the top six returning wideouts have combined for 57 starts.

7. Quarterback Jonathan Perry is in his first full year as the starting QB. He started eight games last year, replacing Bryan Ellis, and threw for 2,042 yards and 10 touchdowns. Through two games this year, Perry has thrown for 536 yards and two touchdowns.

8. On defense, linebacker Marvin Burdette is the most experienced returning player for the Blazers, with 28 starts made in his career. The senior is tied for 8th in all time tackles with 266 and has 17 tackles through the first two games in 2012.

9. Linebacker Greg Irvin is 2nd on the team in tackles this season with 16. He also finished last year with five fumble recoveries, which tied for the best in the country with Oregon State's Dylan Wynn.

10. UAB is 3-14 all-time against ranked opponents. Its last win came against No. 20 Southern Mississippi, as it beat the Golden Eagles 34-31 last season in Birmingham.
