College football's 2018 Week 1 slate is full of intriguing matchups. Few, though, are more-intriguing than Texas' trip to Maryland.

The Terrapins, of course, are in the middle of a major controversy, with head coach D.J. Durkin being placed on administrative leave.

Texas, meanwhile, is looking to take a big step in Year 2 of the Tom Herman era. The Longhorns got off to a rough start in 2017 with an upset loss to Maryland.

Herman's team got some tough news today.

The Longhorns will be without two key defenders Week 1.

It's unclear when they will return, too.

Texas and Maryland are set to kick off at noon on Sept. 1. The game will be on FS1.
