49ers CEO Jed York Vehemently Denies Browns-Harbaugh Trade Story On Twitter

On of the strangest stories of the NFL off-season came out this afternoon, when ProFootballTalk reported that the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers had discussed a trade involving coach Jim Harbaugh during Cleveland's coaching search. Even more interestingly, the Browns released a statement about the report, and did not deny that a trade had been in place before Harbaugh backed out.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport followed up with San Francisco, who did deny the report, on the other hand. That's when this brief back-and-forth with PFT's Mike Florio occurred:

">@ProFootballTalk report on #Browns nearly trading for Jim Harbaugh, #Niners source calls it “completely false. Ridiculous.”

The whole thing came to a halt when 49ers CEO Jed York stepped in and put the kibosh on the argument.

Well that seems definitive.

So now two NFL franchises have made competing statements about what would have been one of the strangest coaching moves in NFL history. We'll be interested to see how this story progresses.
