5-Star QB Goes Undrafted After Leaving School Early

2018 nfl draft

The 2018 NFL Draft concluded on Saturday night. Several former college and recruiting standouts were not selected.

Among those players: Kyle Allen. The former five-star quarterback recruit was not selected during the seven-round NFL Draft.

Allen was a five-star recruit coming out of high school. He ended up committing to Texas A&M. The former top recruit later transferred out of the program.

The five-star QB transferred to Houston. He failed to play much for the Cougars. Despite having more eligibility, Allen opted to declare for the NFL Draft early.

Allen was not picked in the draft. He did, though, get with a team as an undrafted free agent.

The quarterback has agreed to a deal with the Carolina Panthers. Allen will attempt to make the roster behind Cam Newton.

Allen said coming out of Houston that he thought he made a great decision declaring for the NFL Draft early.

"I think it was a great decision, the right decision for me at that time," Allen said before the draft. "It wasn't like it was a drop-of-a-hat decision. There was a lot of thought. All options were put on the table and weighed out, risk-reward."
