Superstar pass rusher Khalil Mack was dealt ahead of the season, and an Amari Cooper trade could be up next for the Oakland Raiders.
Jon Gruden’s team is off to a rough start in his first season back on the sideline. At 1-5, the team is in the basement of a pretty strong AFC West division.
It certainly seems like he may be trying to strip the roster down to its core. Cooper has flashed superstar potential during his young NFL career, but is also quite inconsistent.
Reports have emerged that the Raiders are looking for a first-round pick for the former No. 4 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Pro Football Focus identified five teams that could be good fits in an Amari Cooper trade.
Among them are a few contenders, including some teams with elite quarterbacks who would welcome a pass catcher with the talent of Cooper.
One of those squads played last night: the Green Bay Packers, who are very banged up at the wide receiver position:
Aaron Rodgers would love to have a weapon with Cooper’s prowess to add to his arsenal. The Green Bay Packers’ offense has been questionable as a result of the week-to-week injury concerns of their receiving corps. Green Bay also has the trump card with two first-round picks in the 2019 draft as a result of the New Orleans Saints moving up in the draft to select Marcus Davenport. This move would also place Cooper outside of the conference, which is surely a plus in the Raiders’ eyes.
Green Bay covets its draft picks, but Cooper is only 24, and Green Bay went heavy at wide receiver in this past draft, taking three players at the position. It would probably make Rodgers a happy camper, and Cooper and Davante Adams would be a pretty scary tandem at receiver.
Among the other teams that PFF likes as Amari Cooper trade destinations are the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Seattle Seahawks. The Jets are the only one of the bunch that aren’t really a playoff contender, but it is unclear whether any of these teams are willing to meet the reported asking price.
