An Update On The Layoffs Hitting ESPN

Here's an updated on the massive layoffs hitting ESPN.

The big layoffs everyone at ESPN was fearing finally hit on Wednesday. Dozens of high-profile employees revealed on Twitter throughout the day that they were done at the company. The announcements continued today, when veterans like Andy Katz and Britt McHenry, among others, announced their respective exits.

Are the layoffs over?

John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal has an update.

He's reporting that the "vast majority" of the layoffs occurred on Wednesday.

From his report:

The “vast majority” of ESPN’s 100 layoffs occurred yesterday, a source said. That means that the phone calls telling talent that they were being let go have been completed. The reason a source termed it a “vast majority” instead of “all” is because some of the talent are in the process of negotiating new deals and ultimately still could wind up leaving the network

While this might be true, there are probably more "I'm leaving ESPN" announcements on the way over the next couple of days.

The Big Lead reports that some big-time NBA and NFL reporters have yet to announce their departures.
