Anthony Davis has witnessed quite the offseason by his New Orleans Pelicans, which chose to let All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins go to the Golden State Warriors after signing former Los Angeles Lakers forward Julius Randle.

The Pelicans also let Rajon Rondo head to Los Angeles and signed free agent point guard Elfrid Payton to be his replacement.

Davis is claiming that the Pelicans' offseason could've been even more eventful.

Isaiah Thomas, who signed a one-year contract with the Denver Nuggets, was apparently close to being a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Davis claimed on Instagram that the Pelicans tried to sign the former Boston Celtics' All-Star point guard in free agency.

"IDK what happened," Davis wrote on Instagram. "We would be super nice too."

Bleacher Report tweeted out photos of Davis' comments.

The Pelicans do lack some depth at the guard position. Adding a scorer like Thomas, even if he's not close to being what he was in Boston, would've been helpful. He's the kind of pick-and-roll player that Davis could've thrived with, too.

New Orleans will probably be just fine, though. The Pelicans are expected to contend for another playoff run in the Western Conference in 2018-19.

Davis, meanwhile, is a legitimate MVP candidate.
