Oklahoma Staffer Trolls Colin Cowherd In Brilliant Way After Baker Mayfield Interview
Thursday afternoon, former Oklahoma star quarterback Baker Mayfield joined one of his biggest critics, Colin Cowherd, on-air on FOX Sports 1. Mayfield held his ground against Cowherd, refuting a number of points that the radio show host used in earlier segments to call the Heisman Trophy winner "undraftable."
One back-and-forth from the interview went viral. Cowherd pulled up a short clip of Mayfield, against Ohio State, running off towards the stands in celebration following a touchdown. Cowherd implied it was selfish of Mayfield not to celebrate with his teammates on the field. Mayfield wasn't buying it.
Here's video the interaction. It gets a big testy at times.
Well, it turns out that Oklahoma isn't buying it either. Scott Matthews, who is the Director of Graphic Design for the Sooners, tweeted out a collage showing 28 photos of Mayfield celebrating with his OU teammates.
Oklahoma retweeted it as well. It's pretty clear evidence that Mayfield is a team guy. Check it out:
Mayfield, at the moment, is not considered a candidate to start for the Cleveland Browns heading into his rookie season. Ahead of the NFL Draft, the Browns traded for Tyrod Taylor - who will presumably start under center when the season kicks off.
That said, Mayfield was drafted No. 1 overall, so there will come a point when he's expected to become the team's starting quarterback. Despite what Cowherd says, it looks like the Browns have a team player.
