Bill Russell health update: the NBA legend says he’s okay after a scare. On Friday night, he was rushed to the hospital from his Seattle home. Luckily, it sounds like he’s okay.
Russell is the winningest player in NBA history. The Celtics great won 11 NBA titles during his 13-year career. He spent his last three seasons as player-coach.
The 84-year old Russell was previously hospitalized after a speaking engagement in Lake Tahoe back in 2014. Last night’s was originally reported as being due to shortness of breath and heart troubles.
The latest on the Bill Russell health situation:
Russell gave an update on his status himself via Twitter. He seems to be doing better.
He said that the hospital trip was due to dehydration. He also cracked a joke about not having a heart, seemingly refuting the initial report.
The levity is definitely a reassuring sign. His tweet:
Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts, yes I was taken to the hospital last night & as my wife likes to remind me I don’t drink enough. On my way home & as most my friends know I don’t have a heart to give me trouble @NBA @celtics @TMZ @TMZLive @NBAonTNT @MSNBC @YahooSports

That has to be reassuring news for Celtics fans. Russell made sure to tag the C’s in his tweet, as well as somewhat comically, TMZ and other outlets.
Those Celtics face the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. They lead the series 2-0, after the first two games in Boston.
We’re obviously glad to hear the good news from Russell. Hopefully he has continued good health.
