Booger McFarland Says Tennessee Will Be "Abysmal" In 2017

Tennessee isn't going to be very good this year, at least according to ESPN's Booger McFarland.

The Tennessee Volunteers are entering season five of the Butch Jones era, and fans are likely expecting progress - even if the team isn't projected to be a contender like it has been the past few years. One ESPN analyst doesn't think it'll happen, though.

Booger McFarland, at SEC Media Days, jumped on ESPN Nashville's 102.5 and told reporters that he expects Tennessee to be "abysmal." He also thinks Jones could be out after the 2017 season.

Saturday Down South has the quotes:

“Even in a year where they [Tennessee] beat Georgia and Florida, they lost to Vanderbilt. I think he’s [Butch Jones] a guy who has trouble getting his team ready to play at a certain level week-in and week-out.”

“I think Tennessee is going to be abysmal. I think the people at Tennessee are going to have to make a decision at the end of the year. Do you take a chance on being great, or are you satisfied with being good?”

Jones has led the Vols to back-to-back 9-4 seasons - but each was considered a disappointment. Only time will tell if McFarland winds up being correct.
