NFL training camp practices have been underway for a couple of weeks now. Practices can typically be pretty physical, but often teams will all have a similar rule:
- Never touch the quarterback. Ever.
The Cleveland Browns, finally, have a couple of quarterbacks to be excited about in Tyrod Taylor.
Unfortunately, Cleveland's defense seems to be struggling with this "never touch the quarterback" concept.
The Athletic's Jimmy Watkins tweeted the following exchange between the Browns' offensive and defensive coordinators:
"Todd Haley, upset with the defense getting too close to Baker Mayfield: 'Good teams don’t touch the fucking quarterback!' Gregg Williams: 'Block ‘em then!'"
Both Taylor and Mayfield looked extremely good in the preseason game against the Giants last week.
It would be very Browns for one of those guys to get injured at practice because the defense didn't follow the "never hit the quarterback" rule.
We'll see if this gets covered on Tuesday night's Hard Knocks episode on HBO.
