MLB Insider Has A Major Update On A Possible Bryce Harper Trade
Bryce Harper is the biggest name apparently available on the MLB's trading market ahead of this afternoon's deadline. Here is the latest on a potential trade involving the Washington Nationals' All-Star outfielder.
Harper was reportedly not expected to be traded in the days leading up to this afternoon's deadline, but late on Monday night, it was reported that the Nats have told teams that their soon-to-be-free-agent outfielder is available.
MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand reported the news.
"According to a source, the Nationals have let it be known that All-Star Bryce Harper is indeed available via trade, setting up what could be a wild race for the superstar with the 4 p.m. ET non-waiver Trade Deadline just hours away.
To be clear, this by no means indicates that the Nationals are committed to trading Harper today, though their willingness to listen to offers is a clear indication that general manager Mike Rizzo could become a major seller in the final hours leading up to the Deadline," he writes.
It still is probably unlikely that Harper will be dealt ahead of the 4 p.m. E.T. deadline, but there are reportedly teams that have inquired about him.
The Dodgers and the Indians, among other teams, have reportedly checked in with the Nationals on the availability of Harper.
MLB insider Jon Heyman reported earlier on Monday that no one around the league expected Harper to be traded.
He reported this morning that some have suggested the Phillies should go for him, though.
"Harper still seems unlikely to be traded, but some rivals suggest the team to go for it should be Philly: 1. they have the $, threshold space. 2. they tried for Adam jones and other OF. 3. they are in 1st place. 4. they're expected to go hard for harper and/or machado this winter," he writes.
Harper is struggling at the plate this season, but he remains one of the best power hitters in the game. The MLB trade deadline is at 4 p.m. E.T.
