Play of the Dubai Ladies Masters was suspended after a caddie collapsed.
First round play of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters was suspended Wednesday morning after a caddie collapsed on the 13th hole.
According to MailOnline, Anne-Lise Caudal's caddie, Maximilian Zechmann, fell ill during play and was tended to by medics on the course. "Big Max," as he was known in the golfing world, was rushed to the hospital where he could not be revived. The cause of death was an apparent heart attack.
The tournament released the following statement on the news:
Several professional golfers offered their condolences and remembrances of "Big Max."
Play was suspended early, as no player had reached the 10th hole. The tournament will resume on Thursday and will be shortened to 54 holes after the events that transpired.
Zechmann is survived by wife Elinor and three sons, Maximilian, Ryan and Marco. He had retired to Dubai just a few years ago.
