This Team Is The Frontrunner To Sign Carmelo Anthony After Atlanta Waives Him

This afternoon, the Oklahoma City Thunder traded Carmelo Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks. It is a move that should satisfy both parties.

The Thunder have rid themselves of Anthony's expensive salary. Anthony will be waived by Atlanta, giving him the freedom to choose his next team.

There should be several franchises interested in the veteran forward. The Houston Rockets have been mentioned as a potential destination for Anthony since news dropped that Oklahoma City planned on parting ways with him.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets are the "frontrunner" to add Anthony once he is waived by the Hawks.

While Anthony has developed his ability to shoot three-pointers off the catch--a skill that will serve him well in Houston's three-point heavy offense--he's never been a strong defender. That's a problem when the Rockets just lost two of their better ones at forward in Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza.

Also, Anthony had issues with Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni when they were both with the New York Knicks. How they would get along in Houston would be worth watching.

If Anthony doesn't wind up in Houston, the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat could be options for him, among other teams.

Anthony averaged in 16.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 78 games with the Thunder this past season.
