Report: There Are 2 Favorites To Sign Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is set to be playing for a new NBA team once the 2018-19 season begins, as the All-Star forward is working on a departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Anthony had opted into the final year of his contract OKC, but with the Thunder's luxury tax bill so ridiculously high, they're going to part ways.

The Thunder and Anthony, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Royce Young, are working on a buyout and/or stretching his contract. Once that is completed, Anthony will be free to sign with someone else.

There have been a couple of teams mentioned as possible destinations for the elite scorer. No team has been mentioned more than the Lakers, though.

Anthony is good friends with LeBron James who, of course, just signed with Los Angeles. The Lakers could probably use a scorer like him off the bench, too.

The Lakers don't have a ton of roster spots open, though, and they still probably need to sign another big man.

The Ringer's Bill Simmons said on his podcast on Friday that he believes there are two favorites to sign Anthony - the Lakers are not one of them.

Simmons believes it'll either be the Rockets or the Sixers for Anthony.

Houston has Anthony's close friend in Chris Paul and Philadelphia is close to home. Both teams are expected to be contenders in there respective conferences.

Once a buyout with Anthony is complete, this is a process that could play out quickly. Anthony likely already has a good feeling on who he wants to sign with. Stay tuned.
