Carmelo Anthony is arguably the biggest name in the NBA whose role in the league for the 2018-19 season has yet to be decided. The former Oklahoma City Thunder forward was traded to the Atlanta Hawks, but he's not expected to remain with the club.
The former All-Star forward is expected to be waived by the Hawks. He's then expected by most to join the Houston Rockets.
NBA insider Shams Charania now reports that this could happen today.
The Yahoo! Sports reporter says that the player physicals for the Anthony trade have been completed.
"The Atlanta Hawks are expected to waive Carmelo Anthony today, with player physicals completed over the weekend from 3-team trade, league sources tell Yahoo. Clears way for Anthony to become free agent, potentially join Houston," he reports.
Carmelo has been linked to the Houston Rockets for most of the offseason. Star point guard James Harden thinks it would be a good fit.
"Everybody in the world knows what Carmelo brings, how gifted and talented he is. He still has a lot more to go. If he comes to the Rockets, we will bring the best out of him, and I am sure he will bring the best out of us as well," Harden said at Team USA minicamp.
"We all know how easy he can score the basketball. We have had conversations with him. That’s the most important thing ... bringing in Melo ... to be part of a championship team, you have to have conversations. As long as you communicate good things can happen."
