On Wednesday night, Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm announced he's not taking the head coaching job at Louisville. Although Louisville is Brohm's alma mater, the Boilermakers head coach revealed the timing just isn't right for him to head home.

After Brohm revealed the news, college football insider Pete Thamel named the new top target for Louisville. Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield becomes the new front-runner to replace Bobby Petrino as the team's head coach.

Here's the news from Thamel.

In six seasons as the Mountaineers' head coach, Satterfield boasts a 50-24 record and three-straight bowl victories. Appalachian State has won at least nine games in four-straight seasons.

After missing out on the Jeff Brohm sweepstakes, Louisville fans will view Satterfield as a significant step down. However, the App State head coach proved his worth with the Mountaineers over the past few seasons.

The Louisville head coaching search continues. Stay tuned.
