Pittsburgh Steelers K Chris Boswell has had a miserable last few weeks with the team and he could ill-afford to continue that rough patch against the New England Patriots today. Unfortunately for Boswell, that's exactly what happened - and he quickly paid the price for it.
In the third quarter of the game against the Patriots, Boswell lined up for a 32-yard FG that would have put the Steelers up by 10 points. But he shanked it and promptly felt the wrath of a frustrated Heinz Field crowd.
He was loudly booed after the miss.
Last week in a road game against the Oakland Raiders, Boswell missed two field goals - one of which came as he simply slipped. The misses proved to be the difference as Pittsburgh lost 24-21.
The season on the whole has been fairly terrible for Boswell, who is only 10-for-17 now - easily one of the worst FG% in the league.
He has also missed five extra points, also among the worst in the league - and more than his previous three years combined.
It's a clear regression from last year, when he made it to the Pro Bowl after going 35-for-38 and missing only two extra points.
Even if the Steelers hold on to win the game, it seems increasingly likely that Boswell's time in Pittsburgh could be numbered.
