College football bowl game history was made today.

A college football bowl game had to be canceled due to weather - it's believed to be the first bowl game called off due to weather.

The SERVPRO First Responder Bowl between Boise State and Boston College was called off earlier this afternoon due to storms.

People weren't happy.

ESPN released a statement on the cancelation:

"After more than an hour since stoppage of play, and with review of the active lightning and thunderstorm cells still in the area of the Cotton Bowl, it was determined that the game should be called," Pete Derzis, ESPN senior vice president of ESPN Events and programming, said in a statement. "All parties were concerned about player safety first and foremost, and with that being the primary concern, as well as the fans in attendance, it was a unanimous decision to cancel the game."

The game was stopped when Boston College led, 7-0, in the first quarter. There were a little more than 5 minutes to play in the first quarter.

The game will not be made up.
