A college football player had to be taken to the hospital tonight with what's being described as a "serious" head injury.

Christion Abercrombie, a linebacker at Tennessee State, had to be transported to the hospital at Vanderbilt during today's loss.

The linebacker was stretchered off of the field at the end of the first half.

"Christion Abercrombie a LB at Tennessee State sustained a head injury during today’s game at Vanderbilt. He was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where it was reported by the TV crew he was not responding & will undergo some type of surgery. Prayers to him & team," Tennessee Sports Net tweeted.

Players and coaches from both teams gathered together on the field to pray for Christion after the game.

Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason said "football’s what we do, not who we are," when asked about the postgame moment.

Our thoughts are with Christion and his family. Stay tuned for updates.
