The Dallas Cowboys have turned into one of the best defensive teams in the NFL, but that unit just suffered a major injury on the first quarter of today's game. During the opening drive for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tyrone Crawford went down and was in need of serious medical attention.

His injury was so frightening that most of AT&T Stadium went silent. While it's too early to know the extent of it, the veteran appeared to take a shot to the head or neck area.

With the medical cart on the field and trainers trying to stabilize Crawford on a board, this injury could possibly end his season.

FOX later reported that Crawford had been transported to a local hospital and was being treated for a neck strain. He will not be returning to today's game.

Crawford is more than just an impact player for the Cowboys, he is considered one of the few vocal leaders on the team.

Not only can Crawford pose problems for opposing rushing attacks, but he also gets after the quarterback. He already has 5.5 sacks this season, which is the best mark of his six-year career.

Dallas and Tampa Bay just resumed action with the majority of the time still remaining in the first quarter.

The game is available on FOX.
